New Work

Studio 2b delivers sophistication and practicality in a customized Contemporary kitchen for a
serious and passionate cook in Aspen, Colorado. The project — tailored to fit the clients' needs
for style and open storage — had specific restrictions with limited square footage and low
ceilings, which demanded critical thinking and design work from Samantha Bales, Principal of
Studio 2b and lead designer on the project.

In efforts to bring cohesion and to draw attention away from the lower ceilings, we used the
same style upper cabinets throughout the entire space. We met and exceeded all of the
clients' wishes and overcame the dimensional issues of a tight remodel.

The project seamlessly incorporated the need for function and the desire for a modern
aesthetic through amenities and design. The high-end German kitchen features upper and lower cabinetry in
two types of lacquer, complemented by natural walnut wood +MODO elements by designer Jorge Pensi. A backlit
white diffused-glass and anodized-aluminum backsplash offers shelving, electrical, and
hanging rods to conveniently locate utensils and cooking tools. The custom 4” solid wood
integrated chopping block and floating countertop complete the stunning and functional +MODO
island. 

This Brownstone is a recently completed private residence in Belmar, a mixed-use development in Lakewood, Co. Lead Designer, Samantha Bales with Studio 2b was contracted to select, design and procure all furnishings, and Design a Contemporary, functional kitchen that was an integral part of an open floor plan which included an impressive Art Collection. Careful placement of key pieces was essential in determining what types of furniture would compliment the Art, not compete with it. The Studio 2b team had to wisely select pieces that were not only strikingly beautiful, but were well suited to how the couple actually lived - and interacted with their guests. It not only had to look amazing, be inviting, but more importantly be incredibly comfortable. For some rooms, furniture had to perform multiple functions, a specialty at Studio 2b. Samantha wittingly curated the entire home with transformable furnishings that satisfied all of those criteria.

The home was originally built as a semi-custom with the standard “builder grade” kitchen in a poor location and little consideration of maximum function. The material selection and lack of storage was not cohesive with the modern architecture of the home or the new palette of furniture and artwork. Working closely with the clients, Studio 2b was able to completely redesign the kitchen utilizing their flagship brand, Poggenpohl, a world-renowned brand. With a newly designed layout, that embraced the entire space, the highly functional kitchen will provide a service life well beyond 30 years, it is of the highest quality and light years ahead of it’s time.

On the horizon, the huge oversized, inefficient master bedroom is sure to follow with a creative remodel. Stay tuned.

Relationships are everything to us. After working with a client from Bermuda on their Summer home, located in upper Maine, they trusted us again to assist them with a new endeavor, a newly purchased apartment on the Upper West Side, a classic older building with space, light challenges, and an extremely small elevator. The immediate need was to carefully select and order Modern and transformable European furniture as quickly as possible so that they could enjoy the holidays with their family. The challenge was to create a friendly, 800 sq. ft. space that could easily host 8 -10 guest without feeling inhospitable. The client was very specific that the sofa bed was of the highest quality and durability, the style classic and elegant paying homage to the original stained glass windows. Given that NYC is well known for being space challenged, Samantha, lead-designer at Studio 2b, had to wisely resource furniture that was not only efficient but yielded multi-functional qualities. The living room now becomes a secondary master bedroom thanks to a POL 74 sectional sofa that transforms into a queen bed. The German engineered dining table “Fontana” from Draenert, extends automatically by simply pulling open one end, the center then butterflies open like magic. Fully extended the table now seats 10-12 people. The main master and guest bedrooms are to follow with creative solutions for small space living… More to come, we will keep you posted.
